Injury Rehab Exercises

There are a lot of home exercises that can be used to speed up the recovery process from an injury. In fact, I would take this one step further and say that they are not an optional way to recover faster but essential for a full recovery.

The only way to ensure a full recovery is to ensure that the:

1. Healing takes place in the right way (this is not automatic).

2. Body system affected by the injury is strengthened.

For healing to take place properly the injured region needs to be exercised as soon as possible after the initial swelling and pain has subsided. Rest alone will not ensure that joints and muscles are repaired correctly. For this, it is essential to regain the range of motion of joints  (using stretching and movement) and the strength of muscles, ligaments and tendons (using loading).

Without a rehabilitation program of exercises, joints will lose their full range of motion, ligaments and tendons will never fully heal and muscles will be unable to stabilise the body system when loaded (e.g. scar tissue is left in muscles and the muscles are not correctly orientated). A full recovery is impossible and re injury is highly likely.

I have already written a few posts on some specific injury rehab workouts and you can read these by clicking on the following links:
